The shopping scene is Southampton has always been good, but in recent years, the city centre has been transformed with the arrival of the well-placed West Quay shopping centre. The Bar area of the city is the traditional centre for shopping and features the best selection of high-street favourites. Nearby, the Marlands Mall also boasts more than its fair share of unusual specialist shops, while Southampton's nearby Bargate Centre is aimed at the younger crowd and features plenty of leisure-related merchandise and consumables.

East Street contains a particularly good selection of shops and this part of Southampton has a charm and character all of its own, with many local stores and eateries. If you take just a short walk along the High Street, you will quickly reach Dolphin Lane, where stylish fashion boutiques are particularly plentiful and worth discovering. Just a short distance away and on the northern side of Southampton city centre, Bedford Place features a number of prominent and well-established shops.

The true highlight of Southampton is without doubt the award-winning West Quay mall, which is home to around 100 different shops. This huge selection includes many top brands and retailers, such as Marks and Spencer, Next, The Gap and John Lewis, all housed side-by-side in a spacious and light indoor complex. A food court is located on the top floor and offers impressive views from tall floor-to-ceiling windows.
