Most golf clubs in the Southampton area are suitable for beginners and more experienced golfers alike and visitors are usually welcomed.

Green fees tend to vary enormously and some require advance notice. Here are Southampton's main golf courses.


Botley Park Golf Club

The Botley Park Golf Club contains a spectacular golf course, which is located in the very centre of an enormous, spreading parkland. Part of the Macdonald Botley Park Hotel estate, the club offers a number of additional leisure activities and facilities, including a health spa, tennis courts and swimming pool. Golf-themed accommodation packages are always available, although those looking to visit for the day will find the fees favourable and the amenities superb, with a restaurant and two bars located nearby.

A fairly recent addition to the golfing scene in this part of England, the 18-hole County Golf Club is surrounded by spectacular rolling countryside and offers truly breathtaking views. Natural scenery is without doubt one of the course's biggest assets, together with well-maintained fairways, manicured putting greens and cheap green fees. Electric buggies are available for hire at the golf shop, and the club also boasts a large room suitable for a variety of functions.

East Horton Golf Club

A particularly popular and impressive golf centre, the East Horton Golf Club can be found in nearby Easteigh, on the city's northern outskirts. With three separate courses, a floodlit driving range, golfing shop, professional instructors when required, and a bistro restaurant, buggies are also available for hire here.

Romsey Golf Club

Located in the charming city of Nursling, on the north-western side of Southampton and south of Romsey, the Romsey Golf Club features a number of densely planted woods, attractive views and many narrow, challenging fairways. The 18 holes all offer their own character, with many elevated areas and sandy bunkers, and the course is almost 5,900 yards in total. Green fees are fairly inexpensive and other highlights include a clubhouse serving snacks and refreshments.
Societies: welcome Mondays Tuesdays or Thursdays only.

Southampton Golf Club

With an 18-hole golf course, practice areas and a number of putting greens, the Southampton Golf Club is reasonably priced and first opened in 1935. With a yardage of just over 6,200 and a golf par of 70, the course is close to a sports centre and is known for its ponds and water hazards.

Stoneham Golf Club

Located of the A27, the Stoneham Golf Club is just a short drive from Southampton city centre and features 18 holes, undulating stretches of grass, and many mature trees, a number of which were originally landscaped at the end of the 18th century, by the famous Capability Brown. This golf course is particularly historic and dates back to the early 1900s, suiting most levels of ability. The green fees are moderately priced and the views are well worth the money.
