Museum lovers flock to Southampton for its excellent selection of relics, artefacts, antiquities and other historic gems. The city's Maritime Museum is especially popular and lies along the Town Quay Road, while the Tudor House Museum is more centrally located and has much to look at.

Southampton's Maritime Museum enjoys a waterfront setting and is housed in the extremely historic and well-preserved Wool House, which dates back to the 1500s. The museum is full of nautical exhibits and memorabilia, including a particularly popular exhibition about the ill-fated Titanic, which features videos, artefacts and many interesting displays. Other attractions at the Maritime Museum include models of ships, a gift shop and information about the city's important docklands, past and present.

Situated on the south-eastern side of Southampton and next to the historic town walls, the city's Museum of Archaeology is housed in a particularly old building, part of which was built in the 1400s. The museum contains many important treasures and finds from Southampton and all over southern England, including numerous Roman artefacts, Victorian pieces, old coins, pottery and some exquisite jewellery. This museum comes highly recommended and is full of local interest.

The Tudor House Museum, in the heart of the city centre, is famous for its ghostly hauntings and many people believe that Anne Boleyn's ghost haunts the building, as she once stayed here many years ago. A grand mansion with equally impressive landscaped 'knot' gardens, the museum contains many impressive pieces. The building alone is worth a look and dates back to the very end of the 15th century, having recently undergone substantial renovations, following a large lottery grant.

Standing close to the Ocean Village area of Southampton, the Solent Sky museum, also known as the Hall of Aviation, celebrates the history of flight around the Solent region. Of particular interest to aviation enthusiasts will be an old seaplane built in the 1920s, a De Havilland Tiger Moth biplane and a lovingly restored Spitfire plane.
